Getting Paid To Write Online
A few years ago, a whole new industry that pays you to write sprang up online. In this industry, you have webmasters paying you to write articles, and you also have websites hungry for content and will compensate you for your articles. There are also sites that will list the articles that you want to sell, and still others that will pay you for posting to your blog.
While it might seem the same, getting paid to write online is very different from what you might be used to in the offline world. The following is a short introduction of what to expect if you want to get paid to write in the online world.
Can Anybody Write For Cash?
It will give you a leg up if you have a writing background and have published before. But you can do this even if you have no prior writing experience. However, you do need to be able to write good English, with a minimum of grammatical and spelling errors.
On What Topics Do I Write?
Other than the usual topics that you will stay away from, you are free to write what strikes your fancy. But you will have some boundaries based on your project and payment model. For example, if you are writing for a site about dogs, then you obviously can’t write about aeroplanes. Or, if you are writing for pay-per-click revenue, then you would want to go for subjects that have a high value per click.
How Do I Get Paid?
Writers are used to being paid by the article, or by the column. When you write online, other than simply being paid based on your output, there are other ways through which you can be compensated:
- By The Article Or Post. Some sites may pay you for each blog post, perhaps a dollar or two per post. Some sites may pay you per article, or allow you to list your article for sale.
- By The Number Of Words In Your Article Or Post. You might be offered a fixed amount per word in your blog post or article. Rates vary, but at the moment, I would expect one to two cents per word to be fair for a start.
- By CPM. You publish on the site. The site will then pay you by the number of times the article is viewed. You can expect to be paid about $1 – $2 per one thousand views of your article.
- By AdSense And Other Third Party Ads. The site will add your article to their directories. Together with the page on which your article is displayed, the site will display other ads. These ads may be pay-per-click ads like Google AdSense or Kontera, or ads from sites like eBay and Amazon, or a combination. A portion of these ads will be display with your affiliate code, which essentially, is the payment for your article.
And In Conclusion,
The Internet is changing on a day to day basis and the paid to write industry will most likely change with it. Much of the demand comes from the SEO sector, which uses the content to get backlinks, improve page ranking, and increase traffic from long-tailed keywords. As the search engines evolve to take these SEO activities into account, it is very likely that there will be changes in the SEO sector in the near future and this will impact the paid to write industry.
